Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.

When our basic needs for food, water and shelter are met we survive. There are many treasures to be added to life. They are not necessary for survival, but oh, how they increase the quality of our lives. Art, dance, music, and philosophy are created through careful thought and inspired creativity. Another rare treasure is friendship. Friendship is spontaneous and carefree. It occurs naturally and no amount of focused energy and intention can create it when it is not meant to be. When you encounter friendship appreciate it and celebrate the experience. For friendship gives our life great value.
